The Ultimate At Home Frozen Hot Chocolate (inspired by Tim Horton’s Creamy Chocolate Chill)

DIY Frozen Hot Chocolate

About a month ago, I was in a Tim Hortons by my office when I noticed a new ad for the Creamy Chocolate Chill. Since I have a sweet tooth and an insatiable need to have chocolate at all times, I immediately purchased a large despite it being 7:40 in the morning.

I was not disappointed and have made this early morning chocolate treat into a once weekly ritual, and it seems like I’m not the only one. I’ve heard “have you tried Tim Horton’s new drink?” at parties and “after this, let’s go get Creamy Chocolate Chills” during team meetings. It’s quite simply the biggest chocolatey phenomenon to hit Canada this summer.

Much like the Creamy Chocolate Chill, this recipe is a frozen hot chocolate layered with rich cream and smooth cool ice. Below is both an indulgent version and a low fat alternative that can be made in 5 minutes and offers the rich, chocolatey taste that you’ve come to expect from a Creamy Chocolate Chill with ingredients that you probably already have at home.  It’s great for sunny afternoon snacks, entertaining and of course a year round dessert for those with a sweet tooth.

DIY Creamy Chocolate Chill

Ingredients (makes one)

  • 1 cup of ice
  • 3 tbsp of hot chocolate powder
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla
  • 1/3 cup cream

Healthy Alternative

  • 1 cup of ice
  • 3 tbsp of light or reduced fat hot chocolate powder
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla
  • 1/3 cup almond milk or low fat milk

Steps

  • Put all ingredients into the blender, blend until smooth and enjoy!

Pro Tips

  • The real Creamy Chocolate Chill has chocolate mousse and chocolate syrup on top. I didn’t include this in the recipe because in most instances it isn’t realistic to make mousse for just one drink. If you are entertaining or want the mousse too, check out: Chocolate Tofu Pudding and drop a dollop on top.
  • For a smoother and creamier texture blend in ice cream. This will also prevent the drink from settling quickly.

Who doesn’t love chocolate? I live in Ohio and our Tim Hortons sells a drink that is called Frozen Hot Chocolate…so yummy! Pretty soon they will be serving pumpkin lattes/cappuccino, and those are my favorite. Thanks for the recipe and I appreciate having both versions.

They don’t have pumpkin drinks here! Just lots of donuts and muffins. I’m jealous, have one for me please!
