I discovered Carly on Instagram a few years ago and couldn’t hit follow fast enough. First, we need to talk about her usename/blog name: Dim Sum Diet. Are you kidding me? Is there a better blog name out there? Doubt it. Second, we need to talk about her photos. She is the definition of a foodie and is constantly eating out and exploring the culinary world. I truly don’t think there is anything she won’t eat (but only after photographing, of course). Third, let’s talk about her life. Carly is a Calgary girl who spent time in Hong Kong travelling, working and eating. During this time she developed a love for, obviously, dim sum and began photographing her journeys. Her love of food brought her briefly back to Calgary just to pack up and move all the way to the London to pursue her culinary school dreams. As much as I miss seeing Carly’s adventures in Calgary, I’m loving this look into the food scene in London. I invited her onto the blog to share her favourite instal-worthy dessert spots in her new home all the way in the UK.
Okay sugar addicts, let me cut to the chase. Being an avid instagrammer and an even MORE avid sugar addict, I like to take it upon myself to sniff out sweet spots in any and all cities! Having been settling into my new “London life” over the past two months, it’s safe to say that I’ve gotten my fair share of sugar fixes (I mean after all I do attend culinary school- ergo CAKE EVERYDAY), but that’s besides the point. What I’m trying to say is that I’ve been on the move trying to find some beautiful and delicious sweet spots in this big ole city! Now I know that more often then not, those “insta sweets” are no where near as good as they look, but lemme be clear. I’m a firm believer that taste majorly trumps looks. Sorry not sorry. Ain’t nobody wanna be wasting their time if it ain’t worth the calories. Am I right or am I right?!
Now fortunately for you, I took one for the team and endured my fair share of beautiful treats (tough life right?), some of which lived up to the insta hype, others of which unfortunately, did not. But drumroll please….Here are a few of my favourite London treats TOTALLY worthy of the calories, but even MORE worth of that insta pic!
Any egg waffle fans out there? Well, how do I put this…I would basically sell me soul for an egg waffle… So yeah, I suppose you could call me a fan. I know, I know a tad dramatic but hey, when you’ve lived in Hong Kong for a year and had the PLEASURE of becoming a regular at Mammy Pancake and Oddies Foodies, you’d do the same. Now that being the case, I like to think I know what a good egg waffle should look like. Crispy on the outside and fluffly/chewy on the inside. So in other words… Perfection! So as you can imagine, when I heard about Bubblewrap, I was VERY quick to check this hot spot out. Often accompanying a VERY long queue, I have to say Bubblewrap is definitely worth the wait. Although not quite as good as the egg waffles in HK, I do have to say it DEFINITELY hits the spot when stuffed with your ice cream and toppings of choice! I munched on the regular egg waffle stuffed with vanilla gelato, and topped with Oreo chunks, strawberries and Nutella.

Having endured the arduous task of making eclairs at school, I find myself having the utmost respect for these beautiful babies. Crafted by the award winning pastry chef Joakin Prat, Maitre Choux is an adorable boutique pastry shop located in South Kensington specializing in (you guessed it) choux pastry. Serving up gorgeous eclairs (see above), decadent cream puffs stuffed with a variety of different flavoured creams and my personal favourite the chouquettes (choux pastry casing rolled in pearl sugar) this really is the perfect stop for your mid afternoon sugar fix and insta post! Now back to those chouquettes for a minute… These bite sized treats are seriously so simple but SO delicious. For my Canadian readers out there, think Honey Cruller Tim Bit’s without the icing… NOM… You know what I’m sayin right?!

SOFT SERVE SOCIETY
Okay, y’all know your girl loves a good milk shake. Fancy or not, it really is hard to go wrong! Now I’ll be the first to admit that although this decor was picture perfect I shamefully bypassed the majority of it and went straight for the shake! But hey, when the milkshake is hella tasty, nobody is mad. Now fear not, Soft Serve Society also serves up a variety of oh so smooth ice cream treats! So whether you’re taking a visit for a milkshake shot or a swirly ice cream cone, I promise that your pit stop at Soft Serve Society will not be time wasted! Check out this hot spot at Boxpark in Shoreditch!

CHIN CHIN LAB
Friends, have you ever seen a more drool worthy hot chocolate in your life?! Like um hello, I’m dying. This decadent hot chocolate was oh so smooth not to mention the obvious… It’s been topped with torched homemade marshmallow fluff. SWOON. Like need I say more? I literally dream about this bad boy on those rainy London days… But seriously. Big dreams over here.
On another note, with summer just around the corner Chin Chin Lab serves up some bad ass Nitro Ice Cream… So yeah, we’re talkin’ ice cream that is frozen to order… No big deal peeps, just #SCIENCE. Not only that, picture this… Ice cream. Made to order. Stuffed between two brownies… Got your attention?! Make sure you check out this joint at Camden Market!

Any matcha fans out there?! Are you drooling or what! Now I’ll be the first one to admit I am a BIG fan of any and all Japanese eats. From Sushi and ramen to okonomiaki and tonkotsu there’s no going wrong in my books especially when it comes to JAPANESE DESSERTS! Mochi, matcha you name it, and I love it. SO, needless to say, this Japanese dessert joint was right up my alley. With locations in Japan, Toronto and Australia, this dessert spot is definitely worth the pic and the visit! Serving up a variety of matcha sundaes, shave ice and drinks, I can tell you right now, I’ll be returning VERY soon. (Seen beside is the matcha soft serve layered with red beans, rice krispies and topped with a chestnut and mochi). Now if you haven’t gotten on board yet with these delightful Japanese desserts, GET ON IT!
